What is WAP?
WAP is short for Wireless Application Protocol, a secure communications specification that allows users to access information instantly via handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios, smart phones and communicators.

Fundamentally, Mobile Internet is all about Internet access from mobile devices. A website can be viewed using a phone that is WAP-enabled.

What is the purpose of WAP?
WAP enables the fast and easy delivery of relevant information and services to mobile users. A mobile is defined as something that we take along with us where ever we go (unlike our computers). This is one of the reasons many analysts believe that soon more people will be accessing the Internet from mobile phones than from office or home computers.
